Building Performance Roundtable: Local Governments

Description

2021 legislation (HB2001) created new building performance standards for local governments and public school facilities. Per the bill requirements, newly constructed buildings or those undergoing significant renovations must be designed, constructed, verified, and operated to comply with a high-performance building certification program such as LEED or Green Globes. Additional requirements include the ability to measure energy consumption and carbon emissions, appropriate resiliency and distributed energy features, and sufficient ZEV charging and fueling infrastructure.

VAEEC has been working with key members to clarify the requirements of the law and identify ways to strengthen it, as well as educate stakeholders about the requirements.

Join VAEEC Board members Liz Beardsley (U.S. Green Building Council) and Bryna Dunn (Moseley Architects) for an overview of HB2001, including the requirements and timeline for compliance. VAEEC staff will then facilitate an open discussion about the possible implementation pathways and challenges, resources and support available to meet compliance, and additions or clarifications needed to make the law more suitable for Virginia's local governments.

Registration is free but required. Anyone interested in this topic is welcome to attend.

This event will focus specifically on how the law affects local governments and public schools. To learn about how the law affects state agencies, register for the Building Performance Roundtable: State Agencies event on September 22nd.
